Exploring the northern California, Oregon and Washington coasts in the late fall

Rugged Oregon coast, just off Hwy. 101, looking north in central Oregon.

Exploring the northern California, Oregon and Washington coasts in the late fall can be quiet, scenic and intoxicating.  Gone are the maddening crowds of summer, and weather in November and early December can be sunny, with crisp, clear days. Crater Lake National Park; azure blue waters, jaw-dropping vistas!

Wizard Island is itself an extinct volcano in the caldera of Crater Lake, now an island as the Mazama Volcano's collapsed volcano filled with water over the last 7,700 years.

After visiting the park Visitor Center, the Crater Lake Lodge is a great place to start your tour of the 33-mile Rim Drive. Also a fine place to stay, and for fine food, too! The lobby of Crater Lake Lodge is just the place to curl up by the fire and catch up on [...]
