Trailerfest and Rio Vista Bass Derby/Festival…head for Delta this weekend!

See vintage trailers like this Airstream Caravelle and woody tow vehicle, and 200 more, at Trailerfest!

Take the historic Rio Vista Bridge on Hwy. 12 to the Rio Vista Bass Derby and Festival!

Here are two reasons this weekend to head for our San Joaquin/Sacramento River Delta: the fifth annual Trailerfest, a “back to the 50s”-themed gathering of 250 classic travel trailers and campers at Tower Park Marina, just west of Lodi on Hwy. 12, and the 68th annual Rio Vista Bass Derby and Festival in Rio Vista.

Where but Trailerfest (Thursday eve through Sunday at Tower Park Marina) can you see and tour over 200 classic travel trailers, fifth-wheels and teardrop trailers? In our recent travels, we have seen campers like these.  They share common attributes; small to mid-size, easy to tow, relatively easy on gas, easy to store, and all quite comfortable.  Best of all, they are relatively inexpensive to purchase, and if bought wisely, can be sold years later for nearly what you paid for the little camper.  Lastly, most nearby campers will want to see and chat about your classic trailer.

For more info: For Trailerfest, Oct. 8 to 11, www.trailerfestrally.com. For good resources for purchasing used, small campers, see Craigslist or eBay (you can put up a daily search for what you seek). Or go online to sites like Tin Can Tourists, or National Serro Scotty Organization and others for loads of info and “how to buy” insights. The Rio Vista Bass Derby and Festival runs Oct. 9-11 on Main Street in Rio Vista, with free admission, parade, carnival, car show, fireworks, foor and fishing derby (small entry fee).  For info, info@riovista.org, (707)374-2700.

Coming: Watch for my feature on favorite N. California travel destinations in the Fall (“after the maddening crowds”), coming this Wednesday to my blog, and Thursday to the Record newspaper!
