“Now is the Winter…

…of our discontent”. Boy did The Bard even get that one right.

I’m writing this at 6 am. Steve and I are supposed to do that Silly Solstice Century I dreamed up starting at 9 am today. You know, the route that never crosses itself or backtracks, all while staying within the magic 20 kilometres of Chez Brumby. It follows the French Rules in sympathy with our missed 2020 trips. Why the French think 20 kilometres is okay, but if you go 10 meters past that you will get sick is a mystery. But it is no sillier than some of the protocols here.

My calendar is reminding me that “Winter Begins” today. The weather outside is emphasizing that: cold and very foggy. We may have to change our riding plans.

Welcome to Winter, Stockton Style

Three friends of mine went out to dinner somewhere in Sacramento County last evening. They dined inside, which considering the cold and foggy weather seems prudent. It is also completely forbidden by Governor Newsom’s Stay At Home order currently in effect in 90% of California.

This restaurant has decided to defy authorities and stay open. The customers have decided to defy authorities and enjoy a good meal. I’ve been to this place in happier times, and the food is quite tasty.

I’m not going to criticize anybody. I’m starting to imitate electrons and follow the path of least resistance. Governor say wear a mask, I do so. Governor say stay home, don’t gather, I do that too. No Christmas Day Feast at my Mom’s house this year, although she is still going to prepare the roast. I will drive over and pick up Stoker’s and my portion. No gathering for the Freggiaros.

Governor say take out only, I take out. Well, I actually did cheat at this a few days back. I treated myself to a sandwich at Mister Pickles. They still have a few tables outside and I ate my lunch there. Outside dining is verboten, but the owner let me slide. Perhaps because I paid with a credit card, then gave the staff a $20 bill to make their day a bit brighter. Buying an indulgence!
