“I’m reminded people are good”

Mike Linker, whose cafe was put out of business by an embezzler, has been blown away by the supportive community response.

The outpouring of support for Mike Linker, whose Victory Grill was closed by an employee’s embezzlement, has been strong and heartening.

Example: “So sad about Victory Grill,” writes Norm and Diane Crum. “My husband and I would like to contribute funds to help Mr. Linker reopen his place. … What would it take to make things right enough for him to reopen?  I don’t want to donate to a lost cause but if a few thousand dollars would make it possible for him to reopen, I’d love to help.”

Wow. I communicated this offer to Linker, who said of the overal response, “It’s been overwhelming. And your article has been a big part of it.”

Linker said supporters are boosting Victory Grill’s catering arm, by which Linker hopes to restore his fortunes. “Yesterday I think I took seven catering orders,” way more than usual.

Of the Crum’s offer, linker said, it is “Tremendous. I’d be happy to talk to them. But I think we’ll be able to pull ouselves up without handouts. We’ll do it ourselves. But I do appreciate the gesture.”

“I tell you what, Mike, it gets me teary-eyed,” Linker said. “I’m not going to lie to you: I’d gotten hardneed during this process. I’m remined people are good.”
