New mural, new normal

Edward J. Bonilla writes:

“The City of Stockton will be installing a special mural titled “Redemption” painted by Grace Lee from Steve Ponte’s AP art class at Lincoln High.  …  Grace worked tirelessly at her mural all year, and the art expresses the idea of “Redemption” beautifully.

Bonilla is with Civic Pride Independent Academy, Lincoln Unified’s school for the expelled. The Academy adoped Gibbons Park.

“I believe we have been successful with our efforts at Stuart Gibbons due to our ongoing commitment to visit the park regularly to make sure it is clean and graffiti free,” Bonilla writes. “We also strive to beautify the park with brightly colored benches, tables and art.  We will continue to care for the park during the next school year and hope to install a second mural next Spring.”

This is not just a new mural. It’s a new normal, with heightened community commitment. Keep up the good work, students.
