Fighting “Six Californias”

Saying, “This measure deserves to die a quick death,” the co-frounder of a bipartisan group is fighting a billionaire’s ballot initiative to split California into six states.

The group is called OneCalifornia.

A column on the Six States proposal here.

“No one would be taking this proposal remotely seriously if there wasn’t a billionaire with unlimited check writing abilities behind it,” said Steve Maviglio, a political PR guy.

Silicon Valley venture capitalist Tim Draper’s crackbrained proposal would break the San Joaquin Valley off into the state of Central California. This state should really be named Afterthought. Its formation would disconnect the impoverished Valley from the equity of progressive taxation and redistribution of tax dollars from more affluent regions.

Our state could also be called Flying Leap because that’s what Draper would have it take. May his idea go down in flames.
