The overcompensation is bad enough. But these budget-busting union goodies also serve as a template for municipal public employees. Budget-busters such as the 3 percent at 50 retirement program started with state employees.
As sure as state employees get extra pay for being bilingual, city employees will one day demand the same. And scores of other add pays, too.
That is precisely what the citizens of Stockton, and leaders, must now guard against if Measures A and B are to work as intended. The tax revenue is not restricted. They money will pay for 120 additional police only if public employees don’t gobble it. If you want cops, keep your head in the game.
