Stockton tunnel opponent and reporter Gene Beley takes his video camera to a pubic tunnel meeting at a public place in Brentwood, and is told the press is barred. Evidently the Department of Water Resources’s understanding of the word “public” means “member of the public who support the tunnel.”
Barbara Barrigan-Parilla commented for The Fish Sniffer: “The video demonstrates extreme steps the Brown Administration is taking to avoid accountability for their lack of answers to simple questions from residents whose farms, homes and communities would be harmed by this boondoggle.”
Said Beley of the pro-tunnel state employes: “When I asked all of them if any of them owned a boat, the answer was no. However, one guy had been out on the Delta. I asked him to show me Mildred Island. He thought that was an island down by Clifton Forebay! I told him it is actually a lake over a water filled island near Old River where big boat owners like to drop anchor and hang out for extended periods of time. It is my understanding that will become a 24 hour construction site and barge dock area.”
