Mahony agonistes

There’s a groundswell of public opposition against allowing rapist-enabler Cardinal Roger Mahony to vote for the new pope. Not only in America, in Italy, a bastion of conservative Catholicism.

If your name’s mud there, your name’s mud.

“God’s grace finally helped me to understand: I am not being called to serve Jesus in humility,” Mahony bleated on his blog. “Rather, I am being called to something deeper — to be humiliated, disgraced, and rebuffed by many.”

If he’s comparing himself to Jesus, he is setting new standards in megalomaniac self-pity. Jesus didn’t deserve his crucifixion. Mahony brought his on himself.

And what about the Vatican? A canon lawyer quoted in this story says  ”barring any canonical impediments, Mahony has a right and duty to vote in the conclave.”

There are no “canonical impediments” to child rape?
