In San Bernadino, another bankrupt city, leaders have cut every department except fire, which has majority support on the council.
The council majority isn’t listening to cuts proposed by the fire chief (!), but instead supports a union plan that protects union jobs at the expense of administrators and, presumably, the city as a whole.
Bankruptcy is not fair, except insofar as is equally unfair to all. Special interests who believe otherwise must be mastered, often by the very elected officials who bred sacred cows and lived off thier milk. How long it takes them all to switch from interest politics to fiscal reality says everything about a city.
