Gov. Brown is poised to commence a Peripheral Tunnel that may wreak havoc on the Delta and San Joaquin’s economy. But the news is not all bad. A water wonk wrote in the SacBee over the weekend that Los Angeles and other SoCal Big Gulpers are reducing their reliance on Delta water.
“(L.A.’s) plan proposes to decrease reliance on Bay-Delta water from 48 percent today to 24 percent by 2035,” the writer says. ”It does this by investing in efficiency, groundwater cleanup and water recycling. It also proposes to capture local stormwater, treat it and use it as water supply.”
A 50 percent reduction! San Diego and others are doing the same. If that isn’t good news on the water front, what is?
