Water wonk: water bond is not for canal

“Long time water wonk” Jerry Cadagan writes:

“I’m very much opposed to the $11 billion (water) bond, but it’s simply not accurate to say that it’s “largely” about the Canal/Tunnel, or whatever you want to call it.  It is true that the $2.25 billion for so-called Delta Sustainability paves the way for the Canal, but the rest of the bond measure has nothing to do with the Canal.

“The reason that this is important is that there are people (for example in SoCal) who think the Canal is just fine.  If they get the idea that defeating or otherwise killing the bond will greatly diminish the prospects of the Canal they will support the bond.  They should oppose the bond on fiscal and environmental grounds

“Let’s let the two issues stand on their own.”

Or fall on their own.
