That’s one big crane

Ryan Elias posed his fellow employees at the Port of Stockton in front of the port’s gargantuan new Leibherr 550 crane as it was offloaded from a ship out of Rostock, Germany, Friday.

The Port has bought two Liebherr 550s, and two container barges, as part of its $30 million Marine Highway project. The container barges will circulate between Stockton and the Port of Oakland, promising more industry and jobs for Stockton.

The $9 million cranes tower 243 feet high — 25 percent taller than the 12-story Sutter Office Center, Stockton’s tallest building.

Our thanks to Elias, and his co-workers.  Front row: Catarino Aguayo, Rick Newman Sr., Mike Orona, Rayan Elias, Nick Lovato. Back row: Ron Fideldy, Xavier Cruz Sr., Ray Silvas, Jacob Foster, Vance Christensen, Charles Townsend.
