Persuading Deis to stay

Today’s paper features a full-page ad from community muck-a-mucks urging Stockton’s council to find a way to persuade City Manager Bob Deis to reconsider his resignation and stay at his post.

Why not pay to relocate him to another house? If, as I believe, the purchase by the police union of the house next door to the Deis home, and its noisy remodel, is the main reason Deis’s wife wants to leave, why not pay to move the Deis’s to another house, one free of immature union neighbors?

The city paid Deis a relocation stipend to cover his expense of moving here. Cities do such things all the time.

An intra-city relocation allowance is novel — but not necessarily illegal, opined City Attorney John Leubberke.

There you go, Council. You’re welcome.
