It’s too late?

The Delta Stewardship Council has issued a morbid report saying threatened Delta fish are goners, no matter what is done to save them.

“Expert opinion suggests that some stressors are beyond our control and the system may have already changed so much that some species are living on the edge,” the plan says. “In addition, habitat conditions for some species may get worse before they improve.”

Added Keith Coolidge, chief deputy executive officer of the council: “The smelt may simply be too close to extinction.”
Realism is one thing. But this outrageous pessimism is little short of surrender. If this board can’t find solutions, it should be replace with one that can.
