Standing up for ourselves

I’m still playing catch-up from being out sick. Here’s the petition for writ of mandate to stop the prison hospital, or at least to force the state to be a good community citizen for a change. The suit contends legal action is necessary because the state has shown a “blatant disregard for the community …”

Which it has. Crunched by fiscal crisis, hamstrung by a federal takeover of its mismanaged prison system, the state needs to be grabbed by the throat and forced to pay attention to the quality of life in San Joaquin County. That is only fair. Bravo to those standing up for San Joaquin. May they play their hand boldy if the suit leads to negotiations.
