Police harassment explained
Appropos of our discussion of police resources below, reader John Wells contributes another take:
Recently, a California website ran an e-mail forum … where the topic was “Policing the Community.”
One of the civilian email participants posed the following question: :I would like to know how it is possible for police officers to continually harass people and get away [...]

Developer: Proposed growth freeze is flawed
Kevin Huber, CEO of the Grupe Co., one of Stockton’s major developers, responds to Sunday’s column about a proposed growth freeze until Stockton’s crime problem is solved.
Of course, it is expected that a developer will oppose a growth freeze. But Huber makes a good case.

“Nearly 91,000 San Joaquin County residents live below the poverty line and are in danger of going hungry every day.
“Approximately 56,000 receive a food stamp benefit that averages $1 per meal per day. Seniors and disabled residents are trying to get by on the food stamp minimum [...]

Cabbage bowling on St. Pat’s Day
Recently tourism consultant Roger Brooks of Destination Development advised Stockton to better develop a brand as the Central Valley’s Event Capital.
A great idea I wrote about here.
Today four city business groups, taking Brooks up on his suggestion, announced a St. Patrick’s Day 5K “fun run,” family festival at DeCarli Plaza and 21+ St. Paddy’s day street fair at [...]

Nunes: lower than a river’s bottom
Visalia Congressman Devin Nunes, who opposes the deal to restore the San Joaquin River to life heart and soul, showed his cards at a recent public appearance. Nunes wants the deal to fall apart in congress so it reverts to the courts.
But wait a minute. Won’t Judge Lawrence Karlton, who ruled for environmentalists in [...]
