San Joaquin Valley facing physician crisis

Dr. George Khoury, president of the San Joaquin Medical Society, had this to say about the Valley’s physician shortage. I received his quote too late for inclusion in today’s story on Dr. Kao Vang:

“Due to our aging physician population, the Central Valley is rapidly approaching a crisis of unimaginable consequences due to the shrinking number of physicians not choosing to practice here, and of greatest concern are the lack of primary care physicians we need to serve our population.  Additionally, our current physician population doesn’t begin to reflect our diverse population – we desperately need to recruit more Latino, Southeast Asian and African-American physicians to the Central Valley.”
