Zephanii Smith, a Franklin High grad with a nice background story of being a Gates Scholar made announcements of some upcoming events on behalf of Rep. Jerry McNerney’s office.
Bonnie Dixon – Counselor’s union rep thanked the district for only laying off one counselor (instead of more) and working to find him another spot in the district.
Ellen Old – Teachers union came up to talk about the upcoming item regarding finding a new district office building. “Please consider, just cause you can, doesn’t mean you should,” Old said. Teachers showed photos of poor conditions at schools. Old said the use of Measure E bond money going to a district office instead of schools is not a good use or what tax payers wanted.
Classified union reps also against a new district office building. Said bond money is for kids.”Good example why so many people do not trust the district.”
Paul Barragan – Of CSEA spoke about a school bus issue. The district spent $2 million on buses, he said, and they haven’t been used as the officials continue to analyze the cost effectiveness of running special education routes in-house vs. contracting the work out.
