SUSD Live – 5.0 Public Hearing on common core spending.

Trustees opened a public hearing on  a Proposed Common Core State Standards Spending Plan.

A short presentation talks about common core, which is expected to bring more critical thinking and writing to school curriculum.The district has $7 million to spend.

The district will need to buy some computers (possibly Chromebooks), train teachers, and buy materials.

Superintendent Steve Lowder talked about how the technology is changing, and that students could initially be ahead of adults in some ways.

District might buy online text books. The guy who invented Google Maps has a new website called Gooru that the district gets free for the rest of this year, and could be used in the future.
