An SUSD Police Sgt. has resigned

District officials confirmed Tuesday afternoon that Stockton Unified Police Sgt. Rob Matthews has resigned. His last day  on the job is Feb. 3.

By my unofficial count, Matthews’ exit puts the department at 14 officers, with a 15th – Lt. Frank Gordo – on administrative leave.

The SUSD Police Department is also searching for a new full-time police chief, with hopes of making that hire by March.

In the meantime, the department is being led by interim Chief John Huber and is undergoing an audit performed by former Rocklin Police Chief Mark Siemens.  Last week, Trustees approved spending as much as $100,000 to expand the audit and perform an internal investigation. The subject of the investigation has not been revealed.
