SUSD agenda: Police, Lowder heading to China (round-trip ticket) and new computers

SUSD’s regular board meeting is Tuesday and the agenda came out earlier this afternoon.

Here are some highlights:

*Interim police chief and police captain: A special meeting was held Thursday night to discuss (in closed session) the possibility of hiring an interim police captain and to try to conclude an employment agreement with interim police Chief Eric Holman. It didn’t happen, so they will try again Tuesday. Here’s the public-session agenda item on the Holman agreement. There are also closed-session discussions scheduled on the chief and captain issues.

*Lowder to China: The board is being asked to approve Superintendent Steve Lowder’s participation in the 2013 Chinese Bridge Delegation, a one-week educational program sponsored by Confucius Institute Headquarters/Hanban in China, from Nov. 6-14. Contrary to the math error on the agenda item, the cost to the district would be $1,250, not $12,050, according to the district.

*New computers: Last year, SUSD purchased 4,500 laptops for its K-5 classrooms. Tuesday, the district will ask the board to approve spending up to $1.3 million on laptops for its sixth- through eighth-grade classrooms (though the bottom of the agenda item says K-5).
