This is district police chief Jim West’s final meeting. He retires Friday and he is being honored tonight.
Board President Gloria Allen praised West, 60, for his six-plus years of service. “You were always there for us. Know that we were always grateful to have you as part of our team.” After Allen spoke, the audience gave West a standing ovation.
West joked, “Yeah, sit down.”
West then said the people who should be honored are the other officers and members of his staff, some of whom are attending the meeting.
West said, “It has been my great privilege to spend the last six-and-a-half-years here. I can’t think of anything more meaningful than protecting our students and staff. I have deep connections with this school district and they won’t end Friday.”
West introduced his wife, Deborah, and said, “You can’t do what you need to do if you don’t have someone in your corner.”
West added, “I pray everyone on the school board will continue to support safety and security and give the officers what they need going forward.”
