Chavez High will host its second-annual career day for juniors and seniors from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. March 12. The school is looking for volunteer presenters who work in fields related to Chavez’s small learning communities.
The school’s SLCs focus on communications technology, creative and performing arts, health careers, law and order, and engineering and environmental studies.
Here are some of the types of professionals the school is hoping will volunteer to present:
*Communications technology: journalism, animation, graphic design, computer programming and video.
*Creative and performing arts: most needed are music-theory gurus.
*Health careers: all areas.
*Engineering and environmental studies: engineers, construction tradespeople, those involved in recycling, and interior designers who are specialists at re-purposing.
*Law and order: looking for a wide range — lawyers, judges, forensic scientists, police officers and wardens.
Presenters will facilitate three 45-minute workshops, each with 30-40 students. The school suggests 30 minutes of a presenter-led discussion followed by 15 minutes of Q&A.
