Lincoln High ‘Window On Your Future’ event needs volunteers.
Chuck Walker Sr.: He spoke about Lowder’s request for a contract extension. “I’m very concerned. Seven months into a contract a person asks for a contract extension and a raise. I know the CSEA members, they have a six-month probationary period where they can be let go for any reason. Teachers have a 12-month probationary period. I don’t know the superintendent well. I just thought it was kind of strange. It just caught me off guard. I noticed the district bought 4,500 laptop computers and bought software. It says it will boost student achievement. ‘Will’ and ‘have’ are two different things. I’d like to see those numbers first. I’m 67, and I’m thinking this gentleman is 61 … it’s pretty much like a pre-retirement bonus there. I was an employee of Stockton Unified. I retired from Stockton Unified. I liked working for Stockton Unified.”
Billie Jean Chedaka, Franklin parent: She said her kids don’t qualify for bus passes and can’t afford to make it to school every day. “I’m here speaking for my sons. Can you help me? I’m trying to get my kids to and from school every day. My sons would have to leave in the dark (to walk to school in the morning). There are strange people out there.” She said she gets truancy letters and calls from child welfare and attendance, but she gets no help. “I told my sons I would try, so I’m trying.”
