In October 2011, the board approved a plan to restructure core programs. The district said it was a cost-saving maneuver to weather tough times and it included reducing the high school graduation requirement in SUSD from 230 to 210 credits. Basically, some elective classes that had been paid for through the general fund are now paid for with restricted dollars.
Until tonight, the board had never formally updated its policy to reflect the change in graduation requirements. Now it has as a consent item.
