In September, Stockton Unified opted to purchase 4,500 laptop computers from Hewlett-Packard to be used in the district’s 640 K-5 classrooms. The cost was $1.8 million, and the decision to use Windows machines came only after an end run by Apple executives who were upset the district did not opt for iPads.
Nearly three months later, the laptops are starting to appear in the classrooms, including at El Dorado Elementary, where second-graders are using the devices to work on ST Math software.
