We are still weeks from a final vote tally, but incumbent Gloria Allen’s lead in Stockton Unified Area 1 grew from 25 votes through yesterday’s counting of vote-by-mail ballots to 49 after today’s counting of damaged ballots. The counting of provisional ballots is still to come and is not expected to be complete until at least month’s end. Allen’s lead is now 2,177-2,128 over challenger Monica Hernandez, according to the Registrar of Voters.
In the other SUSD races, Kathy Garcia’s Area 3 lead over incumbent Jose Morales remains commanding (2,194-1,673). Garcia’s lead is now 521 votes, up from 471 yesterday. In Area 4, challenger Colleen Keenan continues to lead Angel Jimenez, but the margin is shrinking. Through yesterday, Keenan’s lead was 325 votes. It’s now down to 288 (3,810-3,522).
Registrar Austin Erdman has said 17,558 provisional ballots remain to be counted in San Joaquin County. That could mean several hundred uncounted votes remaining in each of the SUSD areas, but the exact number of provisional ballots in Areas 1, 3 and 4 remains unclear.
