SUSD campuses continue to have problems with guns surfacing at schools (though as long as no one is hurt it’s better they surface than remain in the secret possession of students). Today, a 14-year-old freshman boy was arrested for carrying a loaded Ruger 9-mm semiautomatic handgun in the Merlo Institute computer lab.
This marks three incidents involving four guns at three different SUSD campuses since Oct. 8. The previous incidents were at Van Buren and Cleveland elementary schools. Today’s incident concluded today when Merlo Principal Yanik Ruley received a tip. He and the school’s counselor and campus security monitor grabbed the student suspected of having the gun, and the weapon fell to the floor, according to SUSD police Chief Jim West.
Below is a picture of a weapon similar to the one found today at Merlo.
