Lowder responds to “poison pen” letter

An anonymous letter dated Oct. 16 was sent to the San Joaquin County grand jury, as well as to Stockton Unified board members Sara Cazares, Jose Morales and David Varela. It also was sent to me.

The letter contains grave, unproven allegations against Superintendent Steve Lowder, among others. The allegations will not be repeated here; absolutely no proof has been provided to support any of the charges made against the character of Lowder and the others mentioned in the letter.

Lowder showed me the anonymous letter Friday, when I happened to be in his office for a previously scheduled interview. Later Friday, he wrote a response to the letter, emailing the “poison pen” letter and his response to SUSD’s seven board members, as well as to members of his cabinet, his office staff and district legal counsel Marie Nakamura. Lowder did not email his response letter to me. Someone else did, though no one from Lowder’s original list of recipients.

You can read Lowder’s letter here.
