SUSD Live — Pre-closed session

Barring any surprises tonight, the most significant item on tonight’s agenda is a budget update six weeks before Gov. Brown’s Prop. 30 school-tax initiative goes before voters.

Before tonight’s closed session, we heard public comment from CSEA’s Marilyn Brown and Deloris Foster. They were speaking on the proposed new administration building (which is on an agenda for the facilities committee tomorrow). They said there have been no raises in eons and money from the general fund should not be used on new digs in these fiscal times.

It’s worth noting that when I asked Superintendent Steve Lowder about this matter last week, he downplayed it and said there really is no movement toward a new district headquarters. Facilities chief Steve Breakfield just confirmed that there is nothing new on this matter and that he didn’t even really know why it’s on the committee’s agenda tomorrow.

The board has headed into closed session.
