SUSD Live — Agenda changes

The board will return to closed following the open session.

On tonight’s agenda, Sal Ramirez asked for several items to be pulled:

Item 8.1. Merger of Valenzuela and Hong Kingston. The board voted 4-3 to pull. The no votes: Morales, Varela, Cazares. Ramirez said he wanted this pulled because he wants incoming Superintendent Steve Lowder to be involved in this decision.

Item 8.1.14. $1 million to Action Learning Systems. The board voted 6-1 not to pull this item. The vote to pull came from Ramirez. ALS is tied to SUSD’s $34.2 million in SIG grants for its seven lowest-performing schools. ALS already has been providing ongoing teacher training. Ramirez said he wanted Lowder to be involved in this decision.

Item 8.18. ALS at Victory School. Nobody seconded Ramirez’s motion to pull this so it died.

Item 9.1. Resolution approving SUSD accepting 2012-13 restricted funds and proposed use of resources. The board voted 6-1 against pulling. The vote to pull came from Ramirez. Ramirez said he wanted Lowder to be involved in this decision.

Item 9.2. Closure of Stockton Intermediate, which serves troubled fourth- through eighth-graders. The board voted 4-3 to pull this item. The no votes: Cazares, Varela, Morales. Ramirez said the $200,000 a year in savings “are not great.”
