There’s room at Taft Elementary’s Montessori program and at Merlo Institute. And if there are more schools looking to join the list, let me know.
TAFT PRINCIPAL DEE JOHNSON: “Folks interested in applying for the Taft Montessori Magnet Program can leave me a message at djohnson@stockton.k12.ca.us. I will reply as soon as I can. If they would like a phone call, I will call them as soon as I can if they will leave their name, telephone number, and best time to call. Although the Taft office is currently closed, I am conducting meetings on campus this week. We have applications in the front office. I will be happy to arrange to meet them to give them an application, or send them an application if they leave their name and address. If they would like to apply for more than one child, they will need an application for each child in the family. Folks from outside our district may apply also, however, will be admitted on a space available basis, with inter-district transfer once accepted. As the southernmost SUSD School, Taft Montessori borders Lathrop to the south and Weston Ranch to the west, and is very easy to get to, from both areas. School hours for next year are 7:40 to 1:40 with an after-school program. We currently have the only public Montessori program in the County of San Joaquin.”
MERLO PRINCIPAL YANIK RULEY: “Merlo Institute of Environment and Technology is still accepting new students for the coming year. Merlo is a small SUSD high school that offers college prep and career prep coursework for prospective graduates. We are a WASC accredited school that has an emphasis on project based curriculum. We have SkillsUSA, Avid and APEX programs and since we are a small high school are very able to help students with personal counseling and monitoring to be successful. Last year we had the best growth in the state Star testing of all the SUSD schools. This year we had the best success rate in 10th grade passing CAHSEE exit exams in our 6 year history. We have a good staff and take good care of our students. If you are interested in applying please call the school between 8 and 1 daily at (209) 933-7190. You may also email the principal at yruley@stockton.k12.ca.us for an appointment for an interview. We are a uniform school and accept most students who apply. “
