This has been a very difficult day for many people in the Stockton education community. Word spread rapidly beginning in the morning that Stockton Unified board President Sara Cazares, who is only 47, had suffered a brain aneurysm and stroke. Cazares underwent lengthy surgery in Sacramento beginning in the afternoon, and just now I got off the phone with her husband, Larry Hernandez.
I asked him if there was something he wanted to tell the people who have been worrying all day about his wife. He said, “We’re positive about her recovery. We anticipate her recovery will take awhile. But we’re positive about her prognosis based on the doctor’s evaluation.”
So, to the extent that there can be good news in a situation like this, it sounds like the news is more hopeful tonight than it seemed to be for much of the day.
