McCarthy is taking on the recent positive grand jury report.

She wondered aloud which unidentified board member was interviewed.

She is upset that the board has not approved a measure that would reduce the amount the superintendent can pay a consultant without board approval be reduced from $50,000. She got in an argument with Castillo. She asked why it hasn’t been put on an agenda. Castillo said that it was because she has tried this before and lost, and that only someone who wanted to change a previous vote could get this on a future agenda.

She is now criticizing the hiring of a Chief of Staff last year (Matt George). She has said the board should have hired a deputy superintendent. The board voted 5-2 last year to hire a chief of staff rather than a deputy superintendent.

McCarthy was just halted from criticizing the grand jury report because the board has 90 days to make an official response.

“I feel like my First Amendment rights are being violated,” she said.

Sal Ramirez: It did not start with Mr. Amato. It has been going on for a year and a half and it doesn’t stop. The turmoil is just too much. I feel like I’m in the middle of a soap opera. I think we need stronger leadership on the board. Mr. Amato has so many ideas. I think if we are strong we can make it work.”
