Not so fast

Will it take SUSD longer than expected to reach contract terms with presumptive new superintendent Tony Amato?     Stay tuned.     And if so, who’s in charge when Jack McLaughlin retires after tonight’s meeting?     FYI — closed session at 6 p.m., public session at 6:30 (or later, if closed session drags on).

Is it all about the money? (Updated)

A reader emailed me this morning wondering whether presumptive new superintendent Tony Amato’s desire to come to SUSD is “all about the money.” I suppose this might be in reference to Mr. Amato’s statement in today’s story that nothing is certain until he reaches a contract agreement with the district. The reader also reminded [...]

It’s Amato

Anthony Amato was chosen tonight to be the next superintendent of SUSD — provided he and the school board can agree to terms on a contract. Provided that happens, the board will approve the contract at a special meeting at 6:30 Monday night, and trustee Anthony Silva says Amato will start his new job the [...]

The latest …

The status of Stockton Unified’s superintendent search soap opera seems to change every few hours.  My latest information is that the school board MIGHT NOT vote at tonight’s board meeting to choose one of three finalists with whom to open contract negotiations.     Officials from the district’s two most vocal unions — the Stockton [...]

And I did not put it [...]

Helping a friend in need

Stockton Unified takes a lot of hits, but the district deserves much credit for recently helping out one of its own during a time of dire need.             Debbie Scott is a longtime office assistant at Weber Institute. Two months ago, her 34-year-old daughter, whose name was Heather, passed away after battling an infection for one month. In the end, [...]

Update on Florida autistic boy

Remember the story a few weeks ago about 5-year-old Alex Barton, an autistic kid whose teacher allowed him to be voted out of his classroom by his fellow kindergarten students?     This update ran yesterday in a Florida newspaper.
