A man is fighting for his life at San Joaquin General Hospital at this hour after being shot in the head in a south Stockton neighborhood Friday night.
Two people, an unidentified man and woman, were wounded in a drive-by shooting in the 400 block of West Third Street about 8:39 p.m. The man remains in critical condition at San Joaquin General Hospital, a hospital official said less than an hour ago. A supervisor at St. Joseph’s Medical Center could not provide information on the woman’s condition when asked for an update shortly after 3:30 a.m.
Numerous police cruisers were seen combing the streets just south of Edison High School in the moments after the shooting occurred. Officers at the scene used flashlights to search for evidence as the last of two ambulances pulled away and rain began to fall over a city where the murder rate has soared over the past two years.
There were indications police were searching for a black or dark-colored Ford Expedition in connection with the shooting, but Officer Joe Silva, a spokesman for the Stockton Police Department, could not confirm that when I spoke to him late last night.
Two people have been murdered in Stockton this week, brining the city’s record homicide total to 63. King Vang, a 21-year-old Elk Grove man, was killed in Stockton on Sunday. Ounheuane Chantrirock, 34, was found dead in an apparent murder-suicide in the parking lot of the Red Roof Inn on Tuesday.
