Manteca hire of former Stockton official causing dust up

According to a Manteca Bulletin story today, City Manager Steve Pinkerton has hired Don Smail, a retired Stockton redevelopment official who worked with Pinkerton when he was the city’s redevelopment director, to work on economic development activities on a contract basis. The hire has riled up some folks in the south county town.

Day labor center out to bid

Construction of a proposed day labor center has been put out to bid. The City Council could vote on a contractor, a proposed day labor ordinance and a group to run the center at a meeting in late August. Here’s our last story on the issue.
