No big deal, just the future of Stockton on next week’s Council agenda

The City Council will hold a study session Tuesday. The main item on the agenda — discussion only — reads as follows:

DISCUSSION OF REAL ESTATE DEVELOPMENT CHALLENGES, OPPORTUNITIES, OBLIGATIONS, AND RESTRICTIONS RELATED TO THE GENERAL PLAN, CLIMATE ACTION PLAN, MARKET NEEDS, EXISTING COMMITMENTS, STATE LAW CHANGES, AND ENVIRONMENTAL/ECONOMIC ISSUES

From the staff report:

The environmental and development communities each have a strong stake in the way these issues are balanced and ultimately resolved. Representatives from each side have been invited to share with you some of their concerns and observations.

No action is requested from the City Council. Instead the goal of the session is to ensure the City Council is aware of the complexity, gravity, and long-range impacts of the Climate Plan implementation as well as how the General Plan fits into the process. The council will take up the issue for a formal vote at a future meeting.
