Ronk swiftly rose to prominence in Stockton political circles in the early 1980s but soon fell upon hard times. He was elected to the City Council at age 26 and in 1983, at age 28, was appointed mayor. But the following year Ronk was charged with fraud for padding travel expense accounts. <read more>
He pleaded no contest a few months later to lesser charges.
