LA Times piece

This story ran recently chronicling the fight between the Stockton police union and the city. Times reporter Diana Marcum quotes one local person, Jodi Cantrill, who said she has so far saved $2,000 to move out of town:

“It’s all the panhandlers and crack heads, the pop-pop-pop of gunshots. North, South, I’ll flip a coin, I just don’t want to be here anymore,” she said.
