“Toss the Deis” mailer

What does one do with this anonymous postcard  that came our way purporting to be a mass mailer. But is it a mass mailer? As of Tuesday only about three had surfaced. Besides that, there are some problems with the list on the flip side.

The card targets City Manager Bob Deis via the list of local community and business leaders who put their name on a large ad run this summer in The Record asking Deis to stay and finish the job he started – fixing Stockton. Those community and business leaders own the businesses targeted in the attack mailer.

But in the course of verifying it for a possible story, one glaring mistake presented itself very clearly.

That came with a call to one of the targeted businesses, Queirolo’s Heating & Air Conditioning. David Queirolo, owner of the business, responded to say that he didn’t put his name on the ad. Rather the name of Robert Queirolo appeared. Robert is either his father, who passed away in 2004, or his brother, who operates his own heat/air business but isn’t at all associated with Queirolo’s Heating & Air Conditioning.

David Queirolo said the mix-up attack on his business makes him mad. He’s busy trying to run a business, but he took a minute to talk about the mailer, which he hadn’t received.

“That’s definitely not me,” David Queirolo said. “It’s not my middle name. It’s not even close.”

The mailer plays on the 99 percent occupy movement, but Occupy Stockton leader Motecuzoma Sanchez said he wasn’t behind it, and the shoestring group didn’t have the money for that kind of printing. Officer Steve Leonesio, president Stockton Police Officers’ Association, also said he and his group had nothing to do with it, despite their public brawl with Deis.

We’re waiting to see how many more arrive before this rises to the level of a story for the paper.
