Unfair coverage

A reader wrote in today after seeing the story today about firefighters approving a contract that cuts their income by 15 percent. We’ve written about this considerably lately. This writer says she is the wife of a Stockton cop and feels, as you’ll read, that police a’re not getting enough ink considering the hits they’re taking.

Curious why a story has yet to be written about the cuts Stockton PD took in August? Ours was 23%  (my husband has been an officer in Stockton for almost 20 yrs). Some officers took a bigger hit depending on their additional pay (education, special assignments, etc.) Uniform allowance cut, huge increases to medical premiums, and deductibles, and a decrease in benefits! also retirement contributions.. The city illegally imposed these cuts upon us. Now it seems Fire are being hailed as “team players, true heroes” because they agreed to the same exact things (sounds like a bit less at 15% actually) …  I know of several officers who have filed bankruptcy, lost homes, etc. Those are just the few that I know!  I also know there are plenty more trying to avoid it as we speak.

I really wish that there could be more written in the Record about this. It seems the Police are painted as villains for some reason, especially by the City Council. I read your paper every single morning, and frankly would LOVE to see some fairness with this topic. Please let the public know what is going on. People need to be aware of the cuts the PD have already taken, and how little they already made compared to other cities of the same demographic.
