Tentative deal on layoff notices

City spokeswoman Connie Cochran says City Hall and the fire union have reached a conceptual agreement this evening that would allow layoff notices to be issued to the 48 firefighters whose jobs are to be eliminated under one budget proposal.

Details are still being worked out and a deal is not yet finalized, she said.
