Fire union’s letter and offer

Today’s story about Stockton’s budget crisis mentioned a letter from the firefighters union to elected leaders that outlines an offer by the unions in negotiations.

Click here to read the letter. The union outlines its offer on pages 3 and 4.

A quick note: There’s a dispute over the timing of the union’s offer. Fire union president Dave Macedo, in the letter, says the union made its offer on May 19, and he complains that the city’s been dragging its feet presenting the offer to council members.

City Manager Bob Deis, rather, said the city received an offer from the fire union on May 26 (Macedo, in his letter, says a negotiation meeting that day was canceled) and said last night was the first scheduled council meeting in which the terms could be presented to council members.
