Stormwater clarification

Our story Monday about voters rejecting a new fee for stormwater service failed to make an important distinction:

While the base rate charged for stormwater service is the same for both residential and nonresidential property owners, the total cost each month for industrial and commercial property owners is higher because that base rate is multiplied using a calculation that factors the property’s size and permeability.

While the vast majority of property owners who received ballots were likely homeowners, utility officials say they don’t know how many of the 16,374 “no”votes on the new fee were cast by nonresidential property owners.
