At least it will be energy efficient …

As Roger Phillips noted in today’s story about the new DMV office in downtown Stockton, efficiency is typically the last thing drivers associate with their visits to the facility.

Well, how about energy efficiency?

A DMV spokesman stopped by our office today after this morning’s grand opening ceremony on South Lincoln Street to dsitribute some talking points. Among them: The agency is seeking LEED certification, or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. It’s a coveted energy efficiency rating from the U.S. Green Building Council.

The DMV wants silver status, the third-highest LEED certification. Here are some of the features the agency hopes will get it there:

•Use of day lighting

•Drought-tolerant landscaping

•Efficient irrigation

•Water-efficient plumbing
