Familiar face pick for city board (updated)

abdullah Back in May I had the opportunity to meet and write about Aliyah Abdullah (left, with her son, Amir), a Stockton native who was wrapping up law school and already had amassed an impressive number of achievements.

Last night she added a new one: City planning leaders picked her to be Stockton’s next Cultural Heritage Board member, where she can put her history degree to use and weigh in on historic preservation issues. UPDATE: The Planning Commission recommendation still must be approved by the City Council.

“I’m very excited,” she said this morning. She said that after taking the Bar exam, she immediately began looking for ways to serve her hometown. After not too long, the board vacancy came up.

In the meantime, she’s already heading back to work, to teach at the Humphreys College Laurence Drivon School of Law.
