Fire add pay audit documents

Record colleague Christian Burkin and I reported this weekend on a city audit that, in part, found that City Hall has allowed the Fire Department to interpret a contract provision to at times grant big pay raises when firefighters are promoted.

It was one of several findings in a broader audit presented to a committee of City Council members last week. Our story was in part based on more detailed audit documents we later requested.

Click here to see them for yourself. They include e-mails between the city’s assistant city auditor James Henthorn and human resources officials, and meeting summaries Henthorn wrote after interviewing fire and human resources officials.
