City Council live – incentives approved

The public hearing is over, and the incentive package is back to the City Council.

Councilman Elbert Holman: “To me, this is a work in progress, it isn’t something that’s going to be a done deal right now.” He echoed one speaker’s suggestion that the city produce a progress report in the next six months.

City Manager Bob Deis said that’s doable, but asked leaders to “moderate expectations,” because there are a lot of factors that determine economic growth.

Councilwoman Leslie Martin: Said jobs are paramount and said she has no hesitation in supporting the incentive package.

Councilman Dale Fritchen: called the package a “good start.” “It’s very important to get people back to work,” he said. Also asked for a six-month progress report to see if the city should “prime this pump some more.”

Incentives passed 5-0. Good night.
